At a large scale, efuels probably won't ever be a thing, but they will certainly work well in some niche applications.

For example, they would be great at providing fuel replacement for people wanting a zero emissions way to operate a classic car. In those instances authenticity is a higher priority than cost.

(A few yars ago, Porsche announced an efuel facility in Burnie, Tasmania - and in my old role I was asked to comment on it in the media. That's why that particular example came to mind: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-10/efuel-plant-proposed-for-tasmanias-north-west/101223944)
